Interesting! I've got the MotoX Pure from last year, featuring a 20 MP Sony sensor that does quite well. Just wished that Moto had enabled saving RAW files.  I've done some larger prints that compare quite favorably with my D800e. In fact I had a show with images taken with both, and people were quite amazed when I told them.  I am impressed how much phone cameras have improved over just the last 2 years! That seems to be where a lot of photography R&D is taking place.

... Just wished that Moto had enabled saving RAW files...

This new model apparently has that ability.
