Title: Teleconverter for 300/4 AFS Nikkor
Post by: ytso on May 19, 2006, 11:05:28 pm
I need advice on purchasing a TC for my 300/4 AFS Nikkor. From my reading so far, it appears that autofocus may be sluggish but is possible with either the TC-14 or the TC-17.  I like the TC-17 over the TC-14 with its extra focal length. Has anyone used a 300/4 TC-17 combination? Do you think I still can get reasonable autofocus in bright daylight with the TC-17?

Thanks in advance.

I have never used it with a TC17e, only with a Tc14e on my D2x. Speed was OK as far as i remember, but I didn't use it on difficult subjects AF wise.

In order to get relevant answers, you'll probably have to tell us what camera you intend to use the combo with.

If I were you, I'd try to play with one in a shot before buying if you have doubt.

Regards,
Bernard

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a TC-17e to play with.
I am using D50 and D70 bodies which I would imagine are slower in AF than D2x.
