Title: Successor to i1Display Pro
Post by: Atina on January 21, 2016, 04:24:59 pm
Could anybody tell me when will the i1Display Pro get a successor?

Is it safe to buy now or is a new device on the horizon?

If I'm not mistaken, the i1Display Pro was released in 2011.

The day after you buy one.   ;D ;D ;D

I think all you can do it Google widely before you buy to see if there's any strong speculation.

However, the i1 Display Pro won't stop working when the successor is produced.  My D800 is every bit as good now as when I bought it, even though it's been superceded by the D810.

Unless you know someone on the inside, or the product is obviously being beaten up by its competitors, you aren't likely to get any indication. See The osborne effect (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_effect).

From a technical point of view I think it is unlikely that there will be a change to the i1d3 for some time, since there is little wrong with it, and it currently has no serious competition in its price slot.

Those that know can't say, those that don't know will say all kinds of things.  :P
As the other two gentleman wrote, get the current product and move on.
The speed of product releases, especially software products from X-rite are glacial.

i1D3 has dichroic filters in a quite hermetic housing. My copies doesn't show any signs of wear (I tested them with lab grade Jeti Specbos 1211)

I'm relieved a bit.

You would all agree that it's, still, better than Spyder5?

Here's my test result. I tested 2 Spyder5 units on NEC PA242W (GBr LED backlight) using JETI Specbos 1211 as a source of reference measurement. Both Spyders were in the forest, and the inter instrumental agreement was poor:
