Title: Epson 2400: missing (?) paper profiles
Post by: StephenEdgar on April 23, 2006, 06:33:02 am
Hi Folks
I'd appreciate any advice on the following problem. When I call up the printer driver, at the Paper Options- Type input box, I seem to have lost the ability to select a specific Epson paper profile. (I know these profiles are 'there' since I can access them during the Print Proofing setup.). The only options available are general ones such as Glossy Paper etc.
Any suggestions how to 'connect' the printer driver back to the specific Epson paper profiles?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Stephen

frequently this is due to the paper choice requiring manual or rear feed to be chosen in the driver first.  once this choice is made the profiles will not be grayed out.  if you check back in the manual you will see this.  these profiles are for the paper that is generally thicker.  what paper are you trying to print on?

Hi Stephen,

The types of paper available under the options menu is dependent upon the black cartridge that is installed. When the photo black is installed you are only given the glossy or luster type papers along with plain. Change the cartridge to matte black and you will see the matte finish papers available. The driver and options menu are not dependent on what profiles you have on your system. They are part of color management and are in addition to the printer software, so they have no bearing on paper choices in the printer dialogue.

Anyway that is the way it is on my 2200. I believe Epson did not change that with the 2400.

Well, actually I really don't understand why I can't use the Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper setting with the matte black cartridge - that paper is not really glossy, but very similar to thin 'normal' paper.

Anyway, the replies also solved one of my outstanding issues with the 2400, many thanks to the posters.

Mark,

My understanding is that the matte black ink is not coated and will not want to adhere to RC papers. Also I read somewhere, (Just one of those things in the back of my head.), that Matte black will tend to puddle on glossy/luster paper and look muddy. This tidbit may have been on Inkjet Art, can't say for sure.
I personally have not tried using any combo other than matte black on matte papers and photo black on luster paper.
