Title: Another back up question
Post by: rcdurston on November 14, 2015, 03:18:16 pm
I have TB's of images and video all backed up on RAIDs, thats all good.
My problem is an incremental back up of my "home" folder, apps (OS too), and documents (LR catalogs etc).
Is there a clear cut winner when it comes to incremental back ups (every 30 minutes or so)?

Thanks
Rob

If you think you need a backup every 30 minutes, then I recommend a solution called "dry martini." It won't back up your files, but it will help you realize that you don't (really!) need a backup every 30 minutes.

Well, I have lots of files being written and re-written, quotes, letters, images, metadata soI'd like to know that it is being kept up to date somehow.

Firstly, RAID is not backup. RAID provides no backup at all.

If you have a Mac then TimeMachine does exactly what you want for free. Every hour or whatever you set using various utilities. You can run a PC on a Mac also.

Well RAIDs are not the only part of my back up system. I also have cloud, off site and working versions so in total there are 5 copies that can be accessed if needed.
I'm just looking to do something with my apps and boot drive.
Thanks, Bob, I'll look again at Time Machine, I didn't see the incremental part of it.

Thanks
R

What is the real requirement? Is it to be able to same up to 30 minutes of work if your machine fails?
